School Programs
Positively Dance Company has had the honour of working with elementary schools across York and Durham Region, spreading the joy and love of dance. Our goal is to empower each and every student to discover their own unique abilities in movement and dance, while also encouraging teamwork, positivity, self-esteem, and confidence! We provide students with a constant positive environment, and make sure students have fun while learning.
Program Details
We teach children from Kindergarden to Grade 8, with two program options available:
Program 1 (During school hours): PDC brings in a experienced dance teacher and/or choreographer for 6 weeks where children will learn a new fun hip hop dance routine. Each class learns a different dance that is customized to their level and age. The teachers will be given rubrics they can use to grade their students, and administrators can decide whether to have the students perform the learned routine in front of the rest of the school and/or parents. This works great with holiday or end of year events!
Includes:
- A highly trained, professional dance instructor trained in positive
and motivational psychology
- A creative, fun choreographed hip hop routine
- Dance education surrounding the hip hop style
- End show assembly for the school and parents
- Specific rubric for teachers' grading

Program 2 (After School): Classes for different dance styles will be available after school hours. Through the school we provide students with a sign up sheet and based on the number of children signing up for each style, various classes will be offered. Available dance styles include hip hop, jazz, ballet, and lyrical/contemporary. At the end of 8 weeks, parents have the option of watching a final performance.

Mission
These school programs are so that children who have never danced get the opportunity to learn and explore movement in a positive, fun, nurturing environment. And for the children who have danced before, they get to improve their skills and fine-tune their abilities while gaining a high self-esteem and more confidence in the process. PDC believes that all children deserve to experience the joy and team-bonding dance provides.
